From the maker:

Smooth, Intense, Sustaining Distortion

Skreddy Pedals™ Pink Flesh:
Based on the “triangle-knob” circa 1971 4-transistor fuzz, but I’ve changed the input capacitor to a more saturated-sounding type like the circa 1973 ‘rams head’ version fuzz.

From there, I’ve tightened up the bass and smoothed out the highs and eliminated the mid scoop. So instead of a raging wall of fuzz, you get a more focused and amp-like tone, without having to stack with eq’s and/or other overdrive pedals to smooth things out or bring up the midrange.

High Gain and Articulate

No scooped midrange

The thick, soaring tone sounds great on all pickup positions and cuts through the densest mix.

The tone control is tuned to get useable sounds at all positions, with the middle position having a flat eq curve. The “Flat/Juicy” switch lets you add in extra midrange thickness, giving you more options to tweak your sound. For example, you can get a cutting, yet thick tone at full clockwise with the switch in the “Juicy” position, and no ice-pick treble will assail your ears.

Inventory Update

Got a couple of pedals in the mail yesterday. The Devi Ever Bass Fuzz, and the FX Dr. Bass Bit. Sadly the FX Dr. pedal was dead on arrival and I’ll be returning it and getting something else. I had heard comments about potential quality issues with his stuff, but was willing to give it a go, this just seems to seal the deal.

I also got a Akai Unibass (not pictured) in a trade. I probably won’t be reviewing it here, but it seems like a damn fun pedal.

Manufacturer: D*A*M
Model: Ram Head
MSRP/Paid: £175.00/£145.00
New/Used/Loan: New
Battery: Yes
Power Supply: 9v boss style
Size: Aprox. 4” wide, 5” tall, 2 1/4” deep (jacks/knobs etc included)
Available from: Used (note pedal has been discontinued)

From the maker:

The Ram Head is a sonic replica of the 2nd edition of the Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi, more commonly referred to as the “Ram’s Head” or “Lamb’s Head” model. The Ram had more gain and tonal scope than the 1st edition “Triangle” Big Muff and was the first Muff to be housed in the larger enclosure.

The original EH Ram’s Head Big Muff is a really great fuzz box but is not with out its draw backs. It did not feature true bypass switching, a DC socket, status LED and had no internally shielded cable, which can lead to stray radio noise and interference. The D*A*M Ram Head captures all the sweet vintage tone of that original 70’s pedal but has all those modern features that are a must for any of guitar/bass player.

The Ram’s Head features include

  • UK made OMEG Conductive plastic ECO potentiometers which have over twice the life span of carbon pots.
  • True bypass switching so no sucking will occur when the unit is in bypass mode.
  • NOS BC239C high gain silicon transistors as used in the original EH Ram’s Head Big Muffs.
  • The correct mixture of ceramic and polyester capacitors that the original Ram’s used to ensure the correct tonal output.
  • 1% metal film resistors which help to minimize background noise.
  • High quality USA made Davies control knobs.
  • Neutrik 1/4 inch long life audio jack sockets.
  • Anodized brass LED bezel.
  • 2% Silver content solder used through out.
  • High quality die cast aluminium hand finished enclosure with hand applied screen printed artwork

Well… I lied

Stashed under: Ramblings of a madman — grygrx @ 8:09 pm

Was going to try and get one up yesterday and today, ran into a little snag and had to work late last night, so that didn’t happen. Half day of work tomorrow should allow me to get back on pace… (crosses fingers).

Manufacturer: Earthbound Audio Effects
Model: Supercollider
MSRP/Paid: $120/$120
New/Used/Loan: New
Battery: Yes
Power Supply: 9v boss style
Size: Aprox. 4” wide, 5” tall, 2 1/4” deep (jacks/knobs etc included)
Available from: Direct

From the maker:

SUPERCOLLIDER distortion/fuzz box
capable of massive guitar sounds ranging from super low frequency fuzz to tight crunchy distortion. excellent for low-tuned guitars and players who need a versatile pedal for various styles of heavy music.

THE CONTROLS:

  • DEPTH: this controls the amount of low frequency available. turn the knob fully counter-clockwise for the most bass and fuzzier sounding notes. turn it clockwise for a progressively crunchier sound with crisper notes.
  • TONE: start at noon and turn clockwise for more treble or counter-clockwise for less. use this in conjunction with the depth control and mids switch to fine tune the distortion.
  • MIDS SWITCH: switch down gives a mid-scooped tone, switch up gives an even midrange.
  • GAIN: intensity of distortion. sounds best between 2 o’clock to 5 o’clock (maximum) for super heavy sounds or between 10 o’clock and 1 o’clock with the volume cranked to drive an amp.
  • VOLUME: overall output volume. adjust to taste.
