Fuzz Review – smallsound/bigsound team_awesome fuzz machine

Stashed under: Reviews - Fuzz — grygrx @ 12:06 pm

team_awesome fuzz machine front 1

Manufacturer: smallsound/bigsound
Model: team_awesome fuzz machine
MSRP/Paid: $185/Donated
New/Used/Loan: New
Battery: Yes
Power Supply: Yes
Size: Aprox. 3.75″ Wide x 5″ Tall x 2.25″ Deep (jacks/knobs etc included)
Available from: Direct or from Fuzzhugger

From the maker:

Description:
The team_awesome fuzzmachine is a full-range, bass-booming germanium fuzz with a clean
blend. Saturated walls of fuzzzz…

Thick germanium fuzz with a clean-ish blend and lots of low end.
Great for bassists, guitarists, and everyone else…
A saturated sound with unique harmonic structure.

Controls:
• Clean: A not quite clean blend with a bit of a boost. (you bought it for fuzz, though, remember?)
• Dirty: Lots of volume from the fuzzed signal…
• Fuzz: Alters texture/amount of fuzzzz.
• Shape: Alters filter shaping: woofy lows to piercing highs.
• Shape switch (heart/star): Changes the frequency response of the shape control in the treble region.
Up: Thick high-mids with a volume boost
Down: Sizzling highs
• Internal trimpots: Three internal tirmpots to further shape the sound! All of these are multi-turn trimmers
which means you need to turn them a lot–this is useful…
Volume trim: Adjust the maximum volume of the external knob to change the sweep.
(WARNING! MAX VOLUME CAN BLOW SH*T UP!)
Bias trim: Adjust the bias of the second transistor. Helps to cancel noise or get
more feedback and to change overall smoothness or grittiness.
Feedback trim: Adjust the amount of feedback happening in the circuit. Go from
gated/quiet to hummm and feedback.

Test Equipment Update:

Stashed under: Mad Rambling — grygrx @ 7:41 am

Based on feedback and my own desires I’ve made some minor changes to the recording and review format.  For all recordings starting in mid December and moving forward:

  1. The active J bass (CB Ball) will be the primary bass used in video recording.
  2. I’m eliminating the ‘odd’ basses from the default recordings.  Listening levels are extremely low, and frankly they are odd basses anyway and serve too narrow a function.
  3.  The active J will now have samples from three positions, just like the passive P
  4. The ‘in the mix’ sample will be recorded with the J bass

Dirt Review – Tonality Effects : Anemonia

Stashed under: Reviews - Overdrive / Distortion — grygrx @ 9:22 pm

Tonality Effects Anemonia

Manufacturer: Tonality Effects
Model: Anemonia
MSRP/Paid: $199 Euro
New/Used/Loan: New
Battery: No
Power Supply: Yes
Size: Aprox. 4″ Wide x 4.75″ Tall x 3″ Deep (jacks/knobs etc included)
Available from:Direct

From the maker:

Description:
Tube Distortion
The latest Tonality Effects Pedal is this special 2-Stage tube distortion. Not only a great sound , but also a visual highlight on each effectboard. This pedal sounds very lively and dynamic, because of the 12AX7 Tube inside the gainstage .

The Tube reacts directly to your guitarplay and technique. Smooth characteristic curve of theTube gives distorted sounds a sweet and harmonic touch, like a Tube Amp.

Nothing to compare with ordinary standard diode-clipping distortion pedals. Even single-coil guitars sounds fat and rich. A huge quantity of harmonics gives you a feeling of playing two guitars at the same time.

Really nice feature is the input sensitivity of this Pedal. You can control the distortion with your technique or the volume control of your guitar.

The second Footswitch activates the Boost-Control, and adds more Gain, Volume and Sustain.
A special Tonestack controls the frequenzy spectrum very linear and find a very nice balance between punchy deeps and transparent highs.
A warm glewing 12AX7 Tube, works in a precious chrome tube shield and needs only a standard 9V DC supply.

True Bypass is a Tonality Effects standard.
