Test Equipment Update:

Stashed under: Mad Rambling — grygrx @ 7:41 am

Based on feedback and my own desires I’ve made some minor changes to the recording and review format.  For all recordings starting in mid December and moving forward:

  1. The active J bass (CB Ball) will be the primary bass used in video recording.
  2. I’m eliminating the ‘odd’ basses from the default recordings.  Listening levels are extremely low, and frankly they are odd basses anyway and serve too narrow a function.
  3.  The active J will now have samples from three positions, just like the passive P
  4. The ‘in the mix’ sample will be recorded with the J bass

  1. 1) i’ll miss the passive p sounds.

    2) many active basses don’t play nice with real fuzz pedals.

    3) lame to give into the majority of whiners ’bout the sounds. your methodology is great. you shouldn’t change anything, man.

  2. Oh, the passive P will still play a major roll. These are really minor changes, I’ll just lead with the active J and then move into the P. I’ll still break out the other ‘odd’ basses sometimes for the videos, but I won’t be recording full sets of sound samples with them.

  3. I actually like the new changes. My main bass is an active j (though mine has active pickups and different fingerboard and body woods), and they sound quite similar, though mine is a little warmer. Plus, it gives contrast, between the super bright active j and the super warm and mellow passive p with flats.

  4. Hi.
I am one of the “winers” who requested a P-Bass only sample set.
So, I’m glad that GR chose the move.
The idea being that he reviews pedals, not basses, and that the tone difference between axes is not supposed to turn a pedal into a different animal with each bass.
But most importantly, is that instead of re-recording a new sample set for each of the basses in his collection (mucho time consuming) , GR will have more time for pedal reviews :-)

    Long life to BassFuzz

  5. I’m glad the active J will be the primary for videos from now on, as I play actives allmost exclusively! Great site, BTW!
