Fuzz Review: Sonic VI Champion Fuzz Unit

Sonic VI Champion Fuzz Unit Construction and cosmetic concerns:

The size and layout of the pedal is an obvious concern, but it’s clear that the builder was trying his best to capture not just the sound, but also the look and feel of it’s classic B&M forefather. In practice unless you are running a packed pedal board, it doesn’t prove to be too much trouble. The build quality is very high, with tied off cable runs and a board firmly mounted to the inside of the case. The case is well finished and the silk screen looks very nice. Despite the size (and obvious room) in the case for a door or battery slide, the four screw method of battery changes still applies. Modern bypass switch and LED finish off the package.

Conclusion:

This is the first tonebender variant that I’ve tried that really stood out on bass guitar, and has certainly peaked my interest to check out some of the different ones that are out there. The champion fuzz unit has a little something going on sonically that really appeals to me, and I’m more than happy to suggest it to anyone looking for a less intense fuzz pedal.

As always, if you have any questions, leave a comment or let me know

Note: A rating of 5 = acceptable and should be considered a ‘good’ basic score

  • Hey Grygrx, the videos just keep getting better, but they’re also getting quieter. The volume is about half of a typical youtube vid (see any of the tonefactor or PGS demo vids.) That being said, the sound quality of the fuzzes has been improving with your new mic techniques – keep it up!

  • I’ll try to be aware of that. Overall volume is always something I struggle with.

  • Great Demo Grygryx, im really glad that you’ve started doing ‘amped’ demo’s – I personally prefer to hear pedals played through amps, even though I do understand that they can add a great amount of colour to the tone which could make the demo unrepresentative.

Analogman should make you a pedal called King of Fuzz – then have a 3 year waiting list for anyone who wants one ;)
